Switzerland is probably world famous for their Rolex and their Swiss Army knives. Likewise, in this blog post I will reveal more of Swiss quality and innovation also in their Kitchen tools. I have many favorites here and therefore it was difficult to pick my list of top 10 Swiss made kitchen essentials to suit any kitchen or cuisine. As a result of living for more than 2 decades in Switzerland I have a lot of Swiss kitchen essentials to write about.

These top 10 Swiss made kitchen essentials are durable and therefore truly stand the test of time. They are a one time investment and some even have a life time guaranty or longer guaranty periods. I like these products because they make my life easier and cooking a joy.

1. Victorinox Kitchen Knives

Victorinox Kitchen knives

Despite being made in Switzerland and the cost of living these Victorinox Kitchen knives  are inexpensive and a great addition to your kitchen essentials. These knives are built to last a life time. I have about 3 varieties of them ranging from the small set Kitchen knives to the big Victorinox bread knife.

Some of their features include:

“These knives are crafted from the highest quality materials and built for performance and durability. Victorinox knives are world renowned for their sharpness and they are made in Switzerland. Victorinox knives seem to be the preference of culinary professionals worldwide.” These knives make ideal souvenirs if you are looking for authentic Swiss quality product which is inexpensive.

2. Swiss Made Vegetable or fruit Peelers

Vegetable / Fruit peelers

How many times have I been frustrated with the peelers I have had to use at a friend’s kitchen while helping out. I might in the future go with my own set of knives and peelers if I visit a friend to assist in cooking. Since I am not a minimalist I have a collection of a few different ones to serve my needs.

Nothing can beat this Zena Swiss Vegetable peeler.

This peeler is the most inexpensive yet the best I have. Due to the following reasons

  • The handle of this peeler is made completely out of one piece of aluminum
  • Easy to use & clean
  • Light weight & strong quality.

I have a few peelers but this is by far our favorite in the Kitchen. The ergonomic shape and easy handling makes this peeler the star amongst peelers. I have other peeler from other brands which are equally good.

The second peeler I have is manufactured by Kuhn Rikon. Kuhn Rikon Original 3 set Swiss peeler.

Another peeler ideal for both left handed and right handed users is Victorinox double edge peeler.

The fourth peeler in my kitchen would be from Kisag. This particular one I have is a Juliene peeler. Kisag Swiss peeler set.

The last in my peeler collection is a Tomato or fruit peeler from Zyliss Tomato & fruit peeler.

3. Swiss Army Knife

Victorinox Army knife

Now what is an Army knife doing in the kitchen? Because of their versatile uses I always have a Victorinox Swiss Army knife  in my junk drawer. Due to the multiple knife features put together in this foldable unit they are a must have kitchen essential in any minimalist’s kitchen. Furthermore, Victorinox provides a lifetime guarantee against defects in material and workmanship

4. Zyliss Swiss Grater

Zyliss Rotary grater

This Zyliss rotary grater is a multi drum grater. I have used this in many recipes the recent one being for grating potatoes in Rosti.  This was a present from one of our good friends when I moved newly to Switzerland. I am so glad that she gave it to me because nowadays its not so easily available. This was pricey even in those days. Because it costed more than a CHF 100.- even 20 years back. http://www.zyliss.ch/zyliss-rape-a-tambours-alu.html

This grater comes complete with 3 grating drums, a handle to enable the easy grating , a vacuum suction bottom in addition to a clamp to fix the grater onto a kitchen counter for stability during grating process. A very solid aluminium body with sharp grating knives.

5. Multi opener

Zyliss multi opener

I have an older older model of Zyliss 5 way Multi opener.

This multi-application opener for use on pull tab cans, plastic and metal twist-off caps, metal bottle caps, pop-tops and jar lids. And it comes with a comfortable soft touch grip. In addition to it its also dishwasher safe. As with most Zyliss products these also have a 5 year guaranty.

6. Hot Pot

Kuhn Rikon Hot Pan

The hot pot also known as Hot pan from Kuhn Rikon

has been an important cookware in my kitchen for the past 7 years or so. I like the versatility of this cook ware because of the following reasons.

3-IN-1: COOKING | SOFT COOKING | KEEPING HOT

Below are some of the most noteworthy features of this Hot pan from Kuhn Rikon

  • Keeps food hot up to 2 hours
  • 60% energy saving
  • Double-wall stainless steel lid
  • Stay cool handle
  • High-quality 18/10 stainless steel
  • Suitable for all hobs
  • Oven safe up to 180°C (without the isolating bowl)
  • Superthermic Sandwich base convinces through a fast and smooth heat transmission

Further more its very economical to buy these pans as a set of 3 in different sizes. Because these isolating outer bowl comes in pretty colors they also make an ideal addition to your table ware setting.

7. Kuhn Rikon Pressure cooker

Durotherm Pressure cooker 3.5 L

I am one of those home cooks who relies quite a lot on the Pressure cooker  for energy efficient and faster cooking.

The typical Indian pressure cookers were very irritating because of their whistling noise. I had a German one for many years from Fissler but getting spare parts was difficult therefore I switched to Swiss made Pressure cooker.

I have never regretted it for the past 12 years with 3 different sizes serving my needs very well. Because of the following reasons this cookware is a worth while investment.

  • Environmental: up to 70% energy saving
  • Fast: up to 70% reduction in cooking time
  • High-quality 18/10 stainless steel
  • Suitable for all hobs
  • Superthermic Sandwich base convinces through a fast and smooth heat transmission

8. Pressure cum Frying pan

Pressure cum Frying pan

After battling a lot on whether to get one or not finally about 6 years back I got a Pressure cum frying pan.

I have not regretted this as makes my cooking more efficient due to the following reasons.

  • Because cooking with this pan is quick under steam pressure with little liquid
  • 18/10 stainless steel; aluminum disk on bottom for quick, even heating
  • Automatic lid lock won’t release until pressure is released
  • Three pressure-release valves and pressure indicator ensure safety. Further more I can even fry the food well without too much oil or burning the ingredients.

9. Stove Top water kettle

Water Kettle by Kuhn Rikon

This kettle was unfortunately discontinued by Kuhn Rikon. My favorite one because of not just the design but also its functionality.

The most noteworthy features are first of all the use of sturdy and durable material. Further more, the handle is heat resistant and can easily be dismantled for cleaning. The handle is not some cheap plastic but its made of some other robust heat proof material. This kettle can be used on any type of hob. I got this in an auction but was lucky to get an almost new one for a fraction of the price. Definitely worth every penny I paid for it. Another reason to invest a little more for quality products which are timeless and last a life time.

10. Utensils

Swiss made Utensils

My set of Swiss made kitchen utensils are more than 2 decades ago and at that point all were Swiss made. As a result of cheap labour costs they are unfortunately not any more produced in Switzerland. Because of the high quality materials and manufacturing these utensils have lasted me for almost quarter of a century.

Swiss made Wooden Utensils

Seems like that only the wooden utensils are still Swiss made. These wooden spatulas are inexpensive costing between 3 to 7 CHF. Rather than buying sets of utensils, one can choose also to buy a set of 2 spatulas. These wooden spatulas are easily discolored and worn out due to constant use. Hence, these spatulas are the only ones I have to replace constantly.

Finally, to wrap up, I could only list here my most used kitchen essentials here. Rather than search around for these essentials you can shop these Top 10 Swiss made Kitchen Essentials below.
