Worx Landroid Robot Hack

Since we moved into our present home, we have been using the Worx Landroid Robotic lawn mower. The lawn mower robot is battery operated and doesn’t make any noise. The Robotic lawn mower, saves us time and it is pretty efficient. The only problem is that we have sloppy patches and the robot always used to get stuck in these difficult spots. Therefore, my husband came up with this hack for our Worx Landroid Robot and we now have a much more efficient lawn mover robot which is a real time saver.

WHY WE BOUGHT WORX ROBOTIC LAWNMOWER

My husband is one who is lazy to mow the lawn using a conventional lawnmower. So we decided to get this Worx Landroid Robotic Lawnmower to mow the lawn. And I don’t need to complain about overgrown lawn anymore. In our old home we had an electric lawnmower and an overgrown lawn. Because, we have to do it ourselves, we did it once in 2 weeks and by then more weeds were up.

The robot model we have is WORX Landroid L WR147E, so this little hack was necessary for making it work efficiently for our lawn.

PROS OF ROBOTIC LAWNMOWER

Instead of cutting deeper into your lawn, the Landroid trims less but more frequently. This leads to more even coverage and healthier grass.

The weeds will not have much chance to grow.

The robotic lawn mower cuts grass consistently short and healthy by clipping frequently but slightly. The fine grass clippings are re-distributed again on to the lawn and it is an useful nutrient for the grass.

Unlike most robotic lawn mowers, it has full turning capacity and turns at right angles. This robot turns to every corner.

The robot returns back to the charging station when the battery is empty.

And last but not the least, it is silent. My neighbor has one from Gardena and it is loud.

CONS

The only negative is that our Worx was often getting stuck and destroying some parts of our lawn. We also have a lot of slope bits and that was a problem. But we could figure out a hack which solved this problem, which we will get into now.

HOW WE SOLVED WORX ROBOT PROBLEM WITH THIS HACK

My husband is a very technical guy and has many clever ideas to solve problems like these. After trouble shooting, he came up with this hack on our Worx Landroid Robot to solve this problem. Therefore, he figured out that it was the spikes which needed some assistance to prevent the robot from getting stuck. So he fixed some screws on the spikes to assist the robot to move easily. This comes at a small cost of destroying the wheels, but that is better than buying new robots every couple of years. The wheels are easy to replace for a lower cost. This is our second Worx Landroid lawnmower and changing the lawnmower is more expensive than the wheels.

STEP 1 : WORX LANDROID ROBOT HACK

Screw the screws on every fourth spike. If this works and the robot works without any hiccups, you can skip step 2.

First we fixed a screw on every 4th spike and saw how it worked. But it was still not moving smoothly. So next we fixed a screw on every 2nd spike. Which is what you can see in the below picture.

STEP 2

Fix a screw on every second spike. You will see the difference in operation immediately.

STEP 3

Remove the screw heads, so the wheels have a better grip and the screws will have enough gap between the orange hood to move freely. Now let your robot run.

This hack was as simple as that and our Worx now trims the lawns without much hassle.

Sometimes, all it needs is an inexpensive DIY hack and some technical knowledge. Glad that my husband is very clever at this.
