The pressure for exchanging gifts at this time is so much that I am actually overwhelmed with ideas. So for the past few years, I have switched to giving only homemade and handmade gifts. I don’t have the stress of going to malls, waiting in long queues for parking, and then the added stress of shopping etc. Scroll down for the 10 Christmas gift ideas I have come up with for this Christmas.

Homemade Jams & Jelly’s from garden produce

Having a garden is very practical, we are blessed with some organic bounty in the form of berries during the summer months. Since we cannot eat all the same time, I preserve the extras produce in jams, pickles and jelly’s. Food is always a safe bet, and I don’t need to worry about health and safety. Because, to make jams and other preserves, you will need to make them in very sterile conditions, otherwise they will go off very quickly. I sterilize all the stuff and then only fill the jars. Furthermore, my friends and family will also get a taste of our garden in the form of preserves.

Homemade Berry Infused Vinegar

Homemade Christmas gift

We had a bountiful harvest of Sea Buckthorn berries this year. In that post, I shared a couple of berry infused vinegar recipes. Since we like to add vinegar for salad dressings and other preps, this would make an ideal Christmas gift. These bottles are inexpensive and pretty to be given as gifts too. On the other hand you can also used up cycled bottles too.

Homemade Apple Sauce

This year again we had a great harvest of our organic apples. This particular variety is just good for making sauces and chutneys. I have an older blog post on Homemade Apple Sauce with the whole tutorial. You can use Applesauce for recipes in baking or even eat it plain. I usually warm up the contents which I have canned and add a few raisins and some coconut. This makes for a sugar free light dessert.

Homemade Christmas Cookies

Christmas Orange drop biscuits

Beginning of Advent, we at the Swiss home have a tradition of baking a bunch of different cookies and biscuits. The reason I bake extra batches, is because I always add them into my Christmas gifts. Another handmade and homemade Christmas gift idea is easily sorted without too much effort.

You can find a few cookies recipes here

Buttery Short Bread Biscuits This is a favorite of mine and my husband. This is also the most visited blog post.

Crunchy Coconut Oat Biscuits You can make this vegan too.

Christmas Orange Drop Biscuits A hot favorite with my little girl and she loves helping me since the age of 3 . The best part for her is always doing the icing. When she was younger, I used to give her a separate batch to ice, due to hygienic reasons. Now she is old enough to understand the importance of cooking without tasting.

Christmas Cake

Egg-less Christmas cake

What would be Christmas celebration without this special Christmas fruit cake. I have been baking and gifting this tasty Egg-less Christmas cake now for over 2 decades. Furthermore, my friends and family have come to expect it every year from me. I don’t even bother to change the recipe, because when I did it once , they didn’t like it so much. Bake this 3 weeks ahead of time and pack portions and add them to your gift baskets. Christmas cakes without a doubt make for one of the excellent choice of homemade Christmas gift ideas.

Homemade Whipped Body Butter

I recently started sharing my time tested homemade cosmetics in this blog. I just recently published Homemade Whipped Body Butter recipe. Since, Christmas falls during winter, we are in need of extra moisturizing. Rather than buy shop bought stuff, why not give your own homemade cosmetics. My natural loving friends definitely enjoy this. Furthermore, you can easily whip up this body butter without much effort with a few basic ingredients. Fill in pretty little glass jars, stick a ribbon and its good to go to your Handmade Christmas Gift Basket. I have also put together an easy a printable label in the blog post.

DIY Lip Balms for your Homemade Christmas gifts

DIY Peppermint Lip Balm

This DIY Lip Balms will also make an ideal Homemade Christmas gift idea and a filler for the gift basket. Another reason to give lip balms, is that during this season, many of our friends are often skiing and sledging and with that comes chapped lips. So they will definitely treasure my thoughtful gift.

DIY Candles

Another safe gift idea for Christmas presents. For the simple reason that I personally don’t like artificially scented commercial candles, we have started to make our own. Moreover, good quality beeswax candles, are expensive in Switzerland. This candle making is a fun time activity with kids too. You have the added bonus of mixing your own essential oil blends.

Kitchen Utensils & Kitchen Towels

I know this is not exactly homemade, but I had to include this most useful gift according to me. Everyone loves these useful tools in their kitchen.

Well another variation would be to sew something special like table runners, aprons and cushion covers by yourself and gift them. Ideas are plenty but I will stop here.

I hope you enjoyed my 10 homemade Christmas gift ideas that anyone on your list will enjoy. On this note, I will end my blog post.

I would love to hear from you more ideas, which I can add to my list for next year’s Christmas gifts.
