Easy Minimal Christmas Decor Ideas

Less is more is a concept I adopt to any decor in our home and Christmas is no different. This year, I could easily decorate again without breaking the bank. Find out my easy minimal and budget friendly Christmas decor ideas here.

In my last post, I gave a tour of our Cozy Christmas Country Home. There were some elements which I used in decorating to achieve a minimal look in most places. I don’t like decorations to clutter up our daily life. Moreover, who likes to dust so much of stuff.

I like to have some pretty stuff which are timeless too. A few years back, we did the Christmas tree too. Since we moved to our present home. our living space is limited to bring in a tree. Therefore, I gave away almost 75% of the decor about a few years back. What I held on to were quality and the minimum. Let me share my easy minimal Christmas decor ideas to achieve a pretty effect.

LED LIGHTING

We use a lot of LED lighting on the windows. The LED lights are energy efficient and the prices have come down a lot in the past decade. I remember buying for 4 times the price. LED lights last long and take up very little space. I would prefer wired led’s but they are not easily available here in Switzerland. Anyway, I don’t want to waste money, just because they are in, when the old ones are still functional.

BRING IN FRESH GREENERY

Fresh greenery can be free. You can pick up the greenery from your garden, or even buy inexpensively in case you have none. In the above picture, we clipped some fresh ivy from our garden. The lamp is sleek and modern, therefore needed a little face lift for Christmas. I tied some red ribbon to IKEA bells which I got last year, and green in between. I couldn’t find the 3rd bell so used this faux holly and berry bunch.

FILL GLASS BAUBLES INTO BOWLS OR TRAYS

I achieved the above look using a round vase from Zwiesel . I had some left over gold and red glass ornaments. To give the special effect, I used a small battery operated wired LED.

USE NATURAL ELEMENTS

In the above picture, I used fresh greenery which I picked off ground. I used an old basket which I thrifted from a local thrift shop. The gold pine cones are old which I got at the end of season sale many years back. But you can also pick those pine cones from your local woods and paint them yourself. All I needed was a ribbon and 1 red glass bauble, a faux flower and a few LED tea lights to complete it.

USE DECORATIVE CANDLE STICKS

I am not much of a candle person. But my daughter is. She likes to burn them and blow them off. But I do have a couple of candle stands. A couple of years back, I got some pretty ceramic candle stands. I used these Advent candle stands last year on the table and it was becoming a nuisance while cleaning the dining table. Therefore, this year I placed them above the kitchen pantry shelves along with a faux plant. This empty space was transformed immediately. The photo is not so good, as our roofs are so high and even my tripod cannot capture the full image.

ADD A PICTURE OR TWO

I used a black board and stuck in some holiday greetings on it and placed it on one of my kitchen shelves. To give some color, I used a faux flower next to it. The letters can easily be changed for some other occasion, therefore, I can always switch it around. I was shopping for things to decorate around the house and found this board in my daughter’s toys. I got this for her a few years back. Now it has a new lease of life.

That reminds me I have to make some pretty pictures for the future. Since our house is made of bricks and mortar, I don’t like to drill unnecessarily holes to hang stuff. So keeping some pretty pictures on a shelf will work out for us.

MINIMAL CHRISTMAS DINING TABLE DECOR IDEAS

Minimal Dining table decor

Since we need space to have our meals on the table, I always tone my decor down to the bare minimum. I stopped using place mats a while back, they clutter up the space. Making a nice and easy serviette folding and using nice napkin rings should add some element to the dinner plate setting. Advent candles and a slim flower vase is sufficient.

I could go on with more ideas, but will stop here. Thank you for reading my Easy minimal Christmas decor ideas.
