Cozy Christmas Swiss home Tour

Join me as I decorate our cozy Swiss country home for Christmas. This year, we went in for a woodland theme and brought in as much of greenery from our garden and the local woods. We have no Christmas tree for the past few years. Despite that, we have created a cozy Christmas home to bring some cheer during these dark winter days and nights.

Once we switch to winter time, I have the feeling that its so dark most of the time. I don’t what it is then that switches my perception of winter. My daughter is in anticipation of Christmas and presents of course. For me it is the anticipation of decoration and family get together’s. Not that we have no guest during the other months. I have guests often, but Advent and Christmas is magical somehow.

Once Advents starts, I am busy baking my famous Christmas Cake, because the earlier I bake the better the taste.

Next, on the list is our Christmas Cookies, a few of which I have shared in the blog. But, top on the list is making our country home cozy for Christmas.

COZY WOODLAND CHRISTMAS HOME DECOR

For a cozy Christmas home decor, this year we went in for a woodland theme in most places. We brought in a lot of greenery from our garden and the local woods. Since we already had most of the decor from our previous year’s collection. Other than replacing an outdoor lantern and some glass baubles, I didn’t need much. For the rest of the decor I shopped around the house to mix and match.

FRONT PORCH

For the front porch, we used a small branch from a pine tree we collected from the local woods and kept it in a terracotta pot. For the other woodland effect, my husband cut some of the branches and bundled them together. I hanged some of the left over glass baubles on this branch and placed 3 white lanterns.

LIVING CUM DINING ROOM

Since our living area is very small, for all purposes it is a tiny house, because we are on 3 levels. We have stopped our Christmas tree traditions since 4 years. Therefore, I have to get very creative to give our home the cozy Christmas cheer during Advent.

The feature wall faces our main door and a dresser is where we decorate the most. I used a fruit crate and filled in some fresh and faux greenery. We had those faux apples from our collection. Beside the fruit crate, I decorated with figures, a mini lantern and some faux greenery and flowers. I added some pine cones and a wired LED into the crate to create some special effect.

On the other end of the dresser, we created a small village scene with some ceramic houses which also had some LED lighting in it. I placed a few LED candles on an wooden tray on one end. To achieve the woodland them, I spread a lot of ivy and fresh greenery. To bring some more natural elements, I bundled some of the bees wax candles and tied it with a red satin ribbon.

SITTING AREA

I have a small dresser close to the sitting area where I store my camera gear. I threw in a linen table runner and placed an IKEA tray with some baubles and a LED light in the center.

And next to the TV, I used an old basket and filled in some fresh greenery and a faux Christmas flower and mixed in some gold painted pine cones along with some LED tea lights. This last minute addition really clinched my cozy Swiss Christmas home decor.

DINING TABLE

Cozy Christmas Home Tour

For the dining table, I like to keep it simple and minimal and prefer the traditional Christmas colors. Our dining table is usually cluttered with many things from books to pens and toys. But somehow for Advent and Christmas I manage to keep it clutter free at least for a few days.

This year, I decorated the table with a red linen table runner and did a simple and easy table setting. For the center piece, I placed advent candles and below the candle tray placed a bamboo tray and some fresh greenery. For the flower arrangement, I used a decorative crystal vase which I bought many years ago in Venice.

KITCHEN

Since we have an open kitchen and the wall splashes are fixed with granite slabs. I cannot drill holes so easily. Therefore, we use a long LED String and string them all over the kitchen. Fortunately, I have a free standing exhaust chimney above the cooking island. That is where I place some of the Christmas ornaments and some faux greenery. We wrapped around the chimney some battery operated LED lamps. And this year, I clipped some ceramic birds in between the wires. I got these birds many years back when we used to decorate our Christmas tree.

KID’S BEDROOM DECOR

My daughter decorated her bedroom as early as the 3rd week of November. I keep our room as minimal as possible, but leave my daughter to be creative in her room. All the decor just gets in the way of keeping it dust free. Moreover, we don’t have huge bedrooms for unnecessary furniture.

My daughter has a countdown calendar to Christmas in addition to a Lindt Advent Chocolate calendar. And has a small faux Christmas tree which she decorated with gold ornaments. She had some very creative ideas and it is nice to see her developing her own taste.

Thank you for joining me today in our Christmas home tour. I hope you enjoyed the tour of our cozy Christmas country Home.
