Low budget Closet organization hacks

Low budget closet organization hacks

I organize and declutter my closet every trip on landing in India, yet it becomes a mess by the time I fly back. On my recent trip I was determined to declutter and organize our space on an extremely low budget. My goal was to implement low budget organization hacks that would be timeless.

My last trip in 2017 to India was a rushed one with a lot of family commitments, extensive travelling and weddings. So, I had very little time to declutter and do a thorough organization. After doing a whole reorganization in Switzerland last winter, I was determined to tackle it in my home in India too.

Walk- in Closet Organization

The first casualty was our walk-in closet. My sister had no time to put away the clean laundry in its designated place. Plus all those bits and pieces which didn’t belong to the  closet have been sort of dumped there. In one of the corner shelves we had still had a few of baby paraphernalia which was really cluttering up the space. My first chore as soon as I reached was to sell or donate all of it. First was the car safety seat. But I found that the foam on the clasp on the seat was badly damaged due to the heat so disposed that. There was more to come and I could dispose or donate most of the stuff.

After that I organized what was remaining. I used some budget organizers and hangers for the clothes.

Bathroom under the sink Organization

Next on my list was to tackle the Bathroom sink and under the sink area. The housekeeper just dumped things there, I can’t blame her. Because, I had no organization hacks in place to keep it clutter free therefore, this area just got worse. I finally decluttered all those old oils, cleaning supplies etc and sorted out only the most important things that would remain. Now the bathroom under the sink is a clean and inviting place. I hope it remains that way.

Decluttering all the electronic gadgets

This was my husband’s job. We still had a lot of wires and gadgets lurking in one big shelf occupying a lot of space. They were still some from the construction time. My husband finally had the time this trip to de-clutter most of it and he stored the tools in just one big carton box and this was easy to organize.

End of Cluttered spaces

After 2 days of decluttering the results couldn’t be better.

We gained so many shelf spaces after this huge project. Now all I had to do was implement some organization hacks to keep this clutter free.

I carried with me 3 bathroom organizers from IKEA which I didn’t need anymore in Switzerland and I could store all the bed linens into these organizers. I also used some baskets which I had purchased a couple of years back. So I stored some smaller clothing items into them.

The whole organization was all done on a very low budget. I must have spent less than Rs. 2000.- for the baskets.

All in all, I achieved my aim that I could implement low budget organization hacks in my parent’s home.
